Seneca Falls deep dive

Title

Seneca Falls deep dive

Description

Daily Suffragist is taking a deep dive for the next while into what happened at Seneca Falls in 1848: what it was, what it wasn’t, who was there, what happened, and how the story got told. #Suffrage100 #WomensEqualityDay #EqualityCantWait #KnowYour19th

It really was the first US convention devoted to the rights of women - free or slave, rich or poor. It was convened by five women, including Elizabeth Cady Stanton & Lucretia Mott. More on them to come.

They advertised in the Seneca County Courier, and wondered if anyone would really show up. To their amazement, nearly 300 people arrived at the Wesleyan Chapel on the morning of July 19, 1848. Tomorrow: Who Was There.
